Truck love

Guthrie loves big trucks. Whenever he sees one, he proceeds to make a high-pitched sing songy sound, bounce up and down, and reach his arm out towards the truck. Our neighbor across the street, Smitty, drives an 18-wheeler and often comes home for lunch in it (minus the trailer). So every day before his lunch, Guthrie gets to take a look at the big cab across the street.

Today city workers were cleaning out the storm drains and sewers on our street. We hung out in the front yard for a while watching them work.

Look mom, a big truck!

It got a little scary when they turned on the pump (it was really really loud), so that was the end of that fun!

Happy Birthday Sweet Guthrie!

A year ago, I think that Bri and I must have had a premonition when we named this blog "Sweet Guthrie." This little guy completely fulfills that sentiment, plus some. We really can't believe how cheerful, happy, and truly sweet he is.

Lately, Guthrie has been turning on the charm. It seems like every time we go out to dinner or lunch he manages to zero in on a little girl (often older) and proceeds to flirt by staring, laughing and just plain showing off.

He also has a really great way of laughing whenever he hears someone else laughing- even if it's completely across the restaurant/room/house.

Guthrie also has started sharing a lot lately- food, toys and drinks.
My mom used to make us whatever we wanted for breakfast the morning of our birthday (waffles, french toast, pancakes, etc.). So, Guthrie started his birthday morning with a special breakfast of french toast, blueberries, and bananas.

Drinking his milk like a big boy in his special chair.
Kid heaven: chewing/holding two halves of the same one and only special blanket!
Showing off his top snaggletooth. His forth tooth popped through today.

Silly faces.
Just plain sweet guy.
A first for the birthday boy: enjoying an apple juice popsicle on the porch.
Wrong side silly!

Mmmmmm. Ice cream cake.

Finishing off a great day by reading and hanging with Papa.
We love you so much Guthrie! You are such a joy and we are so thankful that you came into our lives and joined our family one year ago today!

Papa's the best!

Guthrie's favorite time of day (well, let's be frank...favorite time besides when he's eating) is when Brian comes home from work. As soon as little man hears his papa's voice, he drops whatever he's doing, looks intently in the direction of the voice and starts squealing and kicking his legs and shaking his head around when he sees him. These boys are so sweet on each other. It's really amazing how, at such a young age, Guthrie recognizes that he is most happy when the three of us are playing together.

My favorite two guys on the face of the earth:

Dad- I'm not ready to wake up and be happy yet!

Even though Bri had never changed one diaper in his life before Guthrie, he was an instant pro.
I thank God every day for such a supportive and loving husband, amazing father and the best friend a gal could ever have. Happy Father's Day sweet sweet man!

Sanders sandwich

Almost every Friday, Aunt Tam and Uncle Woo come over for dinner, to hang out and play games. This week, they decided to test the limits of the rocker while reading Guthrie a story before bed...On a completely unrelated note, I feel the need to share the story of the almost tragic demise of Guthrie's special blanket! (Don't worry, it did survive. Thank you Jesus!) Guthrie and I took a day road trip up to the mountains and visited our friend Ron who was taking a class at Penland School of Crafts. While on a walk to the resident studios, unbeknownst to us, Guthrie dropped his blanket out of his stroller somewhere on the road. After a moment of panic and a trip upstairs in the studio, we soon saw the coveted cloth laying a ways up the road- in the middle of the road. Oops. By the time we got to the blanket it had been run over by a car. Luckily, a good wash when we got home cleaned out any evidence of abandonment. Goodness, that would've been a tough night at the Sanders' house!

Guthrie checked out some great clay work at the Penland gallery.

Kitchen stroll

One of Guthrie's new favorite activities is to pull out one of the kitchen chairs and push it around the kitchen.

Making a pit stop at the dishwasher.
Yum yum, magnets.
Pure concentration.
